Re-imagining entrepreneurship as a vehicle for desirable futures

细分领域

Investigating the potential of entrepreneurship and desirable futures in unexplored contexts (e.g., Kibler, et al., 2022) and using empirical data from under-researched contexts to further our understanding of entrepreneurship in context (e.g., Alterskye et al., 2023).

Addressing new relations between entrepreneurship and futures based on bottom-up approaches to build purpose-driven organizations, e.g. through stakeholder engagement (e.g., Cohen & Muñoz, 2015), via encouraging entrepreneurs to consider long-term effects of their projects, especially neutralising negative effects (Ketonen-Oksi & Vigren, 2024), and to re-orient entrepreneurs more towards sustainability and responsibility (Spanjol et al., 2023; Vögele, 2024).

Studying futures in entrepreneurship through a post-colonial lens to examine more equitable entrepreneurial futures, e.g., approaches based on consideration of marginalized individuals, indigenous people, or interaction between different generations (Kaasila-Pakanen & Puhakka, 2018; Lassalle, et al., 2023).

Understanding how futures literacy in entrepreneurship education can equip entrepreneurs to engage critically with uncertain futures (Kononiuk et al., 2021; Randerson, 2023; Vögele, 2024), and develop foresight (Benavides Rincón & Díaz-Domínguez, 2022).

Shifting analytical focus from entrepreneurial actors to the broader systems and future-oriented processes, in line with Bird Schoonhoven & Romanelli’s (2001: 383) call for “a much broader understanding of contexts that produce entrepreneurship dynamic”. This includes examining pioneering emerging markets, evolution of existing industries, development of regional economies, re-generation of the planet, and reality-configuring of desired futures.
