Climate change and outdoor recreation are interconnected, with climate change not only altering natural resources that are the basis for many outdoor activities (e.g., glaciers, snow, thermal comfort), but tourism is a significant contributor to climate altering greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In turn, climate change is influencing the behavior of outdoor recreationists (e.g., altering the timing and location of travel), but also operating decisions for tourism businesses in a decarbonizing economy (e.g., adapt their product to both secure the future of the destination while reducing GHG emissions). Outdoor destinations can and must adapt to those changes to remain competitive and foster sustainable, climate-resilient development. The special issue entitled name of special issue, is dedicated to topics on tourism in an era of climate change, including impacts, adaptation, mitigation, and sustainable transformations within the tourism sector.
